Floater

Floater is a hard rock/heavy metal band currently based in Portland, Oregon. They are well known for their progressive concept albums, stylized storytelling, small yet devoted fanbase, and frequent shows in the Pacific Northwest. Floater was formed in 1993 by singer/bassist Robert Wynia and drummer Peter Cornett. They quickly recruited guitarist Dave Amador and recorded a six-song demo which impressed the record label Elemental, where they were soon signed.

Go Fever

Go Fever, a Portland, Or. trio, have built a sonic catahedral propped up by welcome walls of sound. Their formidable brand of rock and roll is atmospheric and grand, delivering jangly retro guitars, sexy bass lines and primal beats, which inspires and captivates the listener. Go Fever’s music is culled passionately from a broad array of influences, both old and new, esoteric and familiar.

Caves

Caves are as tight on stage as they are on their album, executing every syncopated plot point perfectly, and when you close your eyes you can't tell which direction the sound is coming from. They are, in essence, the soundtrack to a never-made Hitchcock film about love-crazed, epileptic, murderous teenagers, if scored by the Clash. Illicit and catchy, every song a call to arms. The sound is swollen and veiny with throbbing, planetary force. And people are dancing like drunken rag dolls.

Blue Skies
for Black
Hearts

After the break up of his riotous garage band Big Jim, lead singer/songwriterand self-taught producer Pat Kearns left the roaring guitars, bloody fingers and drug hazed nights behind and holed up in his own Studio 13 to record what would become the critically lauded debut album This Black Heart is Gonna Break, a work lush with warm, layered guitars and keyboards, peppered with delicate yet brooding pop melodies.

Federale

From the ashes of Cocaine Unicorn and featuring members of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Agaloch, The High Violets, Blackout Radio, and Doublewide comes....Federale. Federale is a band who plays soundtrack music to westerns in the 60s italian style which do not exist. The story that we have chosen to tell is named "La Rayar: A Tale of Revenge." It is the story of a simple man, Santiago, who's life is destroyed and who is driven to extreme violence.

What is “Supportland”?

SUPPORTLAND is an evening of music, entertainment, education, food and beverage. We aim to draw 300–500 people and raise $10,000 or more. We are engaging several big name local bands, accompanied by food and bar service, with all proceeds going to our friend and co-worker Chad Schild’s support fund.

We are a group of current and former restaurant workers who have come together to organize SUPPORTLAND, a benefit event featuring live music, food, beverages and more. Proceeds from this event will go to the medical support fund for Chad Schild.

We are seeking your support and participation in this event.

Who is Chad Schild?

On June 25th Chad was taken to the ER at Good Samaritan Hospital after an accumulation of unusual but seemingly routine health complaints. The following night doctors gave him a stunning diagnosis: Chad has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, an uncommonly aggressive form of cancer.

He is currently receiving as much chemotherapy as his body will tolerate in an attempt to force this disease into remission. Chad, age 35, has been part of our Portland community since early 2002. He has been employed at Papa Haydn and Jo Bar on NW 23rd for the past 5 years. Anyone who lives, eats or drinks in this neighborhood would recognize Chad’s sandy blonde beard and remember his never-ending wisecracks.

Chad was admitted to the ER at Good Samaritan Hospital in Northwest Portland on Monday, June 25th, 2007. On the following Tuesday evening received a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He started intensive chemotherapy the following week to try to force his aggressive form of cancer into remission.

Like 46 million other Americans, and like so many of our fellow Portland restaurant workers, Chad does not have health insurance. While the Oregon Health Plan and Medicare may step up to cover some part of his medical expenses, he is still unable to work, and his monthly bills are piling up. This combination of medical bills and debt threatens to derail Chad’s life even if he does make a full recovery from his current condition.

Meanwhile, Chad’s family is rearranging their lives to travel to Portland during this battle, stretching everybody’s budget to the limit. Chad’s story is the ultimate “what if” tale for restaurant workers. As we all know, it is not economically feasible for most restaurants to offer health insurance to all their employees. But we can band together to support a member of our service industry family during this tragedy.

Please consider contributing via Paypal to a general fund to help Chad out during his ongoing treatment. Learn more.
